Marcus Luttrell’s 2007 #1 New York Times best-selling book, Lone Survivor, tells the harrowing story of four Navy SEALs who journeyed to the mountainous border of Afghanistan and Pakistan on Operation Redwing. This motivational story of survival is also a tribute to his teammates who did not make it off the mountain. A powerful testament of courage, integrity, and friendship, the Lone Survivor story was released this year as a major motion picture starring Mark Wahlberg as Luttrell.
Marcus Luttrell joined the U.S. Navy in 1999 and became a combat-trained SEAL in 2002. After serving in Iraq, he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. After recuperating from injuries received there, Luttrell returned to Iraq for a second tour. He retired in the spring of 2007 and was awarded the Navy Cross by President George W. Bush for combat heroism.
